Trump urged not to scrap DACA policy for young immigrants

Advocates demonstrate in support of DACA in Los Angeles, California on September 1, 2017.

The program has shielded from deportation some 800,000 students and workers brought to this country, yes, illegally but through no fault of their own.

People rallying at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse on Friday night are aware President Trump has been rolling back policies approved by former President Obama. "So if we're talking about family values, those families also have to be included".

DACA is a program that affects many in South Florida which is why education, business and political leaders gathered earlier this week - calling on the president to continue the Dreamers policy. We also join together to send our assurances to Dreamers: we see you, we value you, and we are ready to defend you. There is no proof that DACA recipients have abused the program.

So before the fate of DACA is sealed, it's worth taking a look at who the program has helped.

A senior administration official briefed the media on the president's plans Thursday.

"I think the decision itself is weighing on him, certainly", White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Friday, via the AP. "I know that's not a great answer".

"I've urged the President not to rescind DACA, an action that would further complicate a system in serious need of a permanent, legislative solution", Sen.

In a joint open letter addressed to Trump, industry leaders wrote: "Dreamers [the name given to those on the DACA program] are vital to the future of our companies and our economy".

A group of GOP lawmakers has threatened a lawsuit over DACA's constitutionality if the president doesn't act to cut the program by Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Should DACA be rescinded, it would be up to Congress, working with the Administration, to agree upon legislation to provide legal status to these individuals. He then plugged the border wall again saying "we're going to have a very strong border" but then continued, "we have great people who are here that have done a good job".
