Liverpool FC Reach Club Record Agreement for Naby Keita Next Summer

"The stadium was packed and the fans were going crazy; I was happy with that one".

However, news broke yesterday that Liverpool had reached an agreement to sign Keita at a premium in 2018 with the Liverpool Echo claiming the player underwent a medical in Wilmslow on Monday afternoon.

The midfielder's release clause next summer is set at £48million but Liverpool's offer exceeds that, it is understood.

The 22-year-old told club's official website: "I will become part of a project that excites me greatly".

The deal will see the Guinean join up with his new club at the end of the 2017/18 season.

The France defender is currently out of favour under Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Keita transfer has been one of the most on-off in many years, but Liverpool finally have their man.

Keita scored eight goals and provided eight assists to help Leipzig finish second in the German Bundesliga last season.

"He is an extraordinary player [so] there must be a place there [in the side for him]".

He has been likened to N'Golo Kante for his natural ability to read the game, claiming interceptions and regaining the ball.

Quotes to follow from the midfielder.

Transfer Nabi Keita will be the largest in the history "Liverpool". For all that Barcelona want him, they have stressed he is not for sale.

RB Leipzig finished second behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season, meaning they qualified for the Champions League group stage.

According to reports on both sides of the Channel, the Reds have earmarked Lemar as a prime target before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.

A deal for Keita looks highly unlikely given Leipzig's strong stance but there is still hope if you look at the history books.
